AlexandriaAlexandria is where the game begins. A large and busy city sited at the top of a large waterfall, with a huge white castle at it's centre. The castle itself has a tall, towering blade-like structure that stretches high into the sky. Alexandria is a large militant country with it's army of mostly female soldiers, commanded by famous swordswoman Beatrix, and it's Knights of Pluto, commanded by Captain Steiner. Alexandria is ruled by Queen Brahne and heir to throne, Princess Garnet til Alexandros 17th. Vivi meets his first friend here, called Puck, who sneaks him in to see the play, 'I Want To Be Your Canary', being performed by Zidane's group Tantalus for Garnet's birthday. Garnet is voluntarily kidnapped by Zidane, and Tantalus (the theatre troupe, also a group of theives) barely escapes Alexandria. Puck later turns out to be Prince Puck of Burmecia. The party return here at the end of Disc 2/start of Disc 3 when Garnet becomes Queen, after Brahne's death at Kuja's hand. Alexandria is later completely destroyed by Bahamut, under Kuja's control. Black Mage VillageThis small village is hidden deep inside a forest on the Outer Continent, South-East of Conde Petie. As it's name suggests, it's home to a whole host of Black Mages who have 'become aware'. They are no longer mindless puppets under Kuja's command, and hide here away from civilisation. They are peaceful now and are very good merchants. This village is later home to the Genomes once they are rescued from Terra before it's destruction. The party first come here on Disc 2 after seeing a Black Mage in Conde Petie and then following it. It is also here that Vivi learns the Black Mages 'stop', and wonders if he too only has a certain amount of time left. Bran BalBran Bal is a city on the planet of Terra. Bran Bal is home to the genomes, where they live their lives while waiting for souls to enter their bodies and wait for Terra to be reborn. Here they monitor the cycle of souls on Gaia. It is here that Zidane learns the truth about his past, with the help of another Genome called Mikoto. It is also in Bran Bal that Garnet realises that Garland's airship, the Invincible, destroyed Madain Sari ten years ago. The party come here on Disc 3. Burmecia'The Realm of Eternal Rain' as it is called, due to the fact it is always raining there. Burmecia is the kingdom West of Alexandria, and north of Lindblum. Burmecia is a beautiful city and is home to a race of rat-like people who are also talented Dragoons and soldiers. Burmecia is also a very a militant kingdom. Burmecians are known for their sense of righteousness, their nobility and strength. Burmecia is where Freya and her lost-love Lord Fratley come from. The party first come here near the end of Disc 1, after it has been attacked and destroyed by Queen Brahne, General Beatrix and the Alexandrian forces. Chocobo Locations
CleyraA city situated at the top of a large tree in the middle of the desert West of Burmecia. The tree is protected by a large sandstorm, making it impossible for invaders to climb the tree. A long time ago Burmecians who despised Burmecia's martial ways, moved here and formed their own peaceful and religious colony. This serene city built into and upon the tree is very picturesque. It is here that Freya finds her lost-lover Lord Fratley, although he suffers from amnesia and does not remember her. Vivi also meets up with his first friend Puck here. The party first come here on Disc 2, shortly after their arrival the sandstorm protecting the 'sandy treehouse' fails and Alexandrian forces ransack and destroy the place. Conde PetieA town of Scottish speaking dwarves, where one must say "Rally-ho!" to enter. The town itself is suspended by thick roots over a valley on the Outer Continent. The town blocks the way to the Conde Petie Mountain Path which leads to the Iifa Tree and Madain Sari. Only married couple may pass through onto the Mountain Path to be blessed at the Sanctuary (the Iifa Tree). The party first come here on Disc 2 while searching for information on Kuja. It is here that they see the Black Mage which they chase to the Black Mage Village. They also see Eiko on the Mountain Path after Zidane and Garnet 'marry', and Vivi and Quina 'marry' so they can get through to the Iifa Tree. Crystal WorldThe Crystal World can be accessed through Memoria. The Crystal World houses the Crystal of Creation. Kuja aims to destroy this crystal, which means the destruction of the whole universe. It is here that the party fight the final boss, Necron - who believes in the destruction of everything. The party come here on Disc 4. DaguerreoA hidden town located on an island on the outside of the Forgotten Continent, just South of Oeilvert. The people here are dedicted to learning, and have the best items and synthesis shops in the game. Daguerreo is permenantly flooded, perhaps in worship to the statue of Leviathan in the main hall. The party can come here once they gain access to an airship on Disc 3. DaliA small rural village in between Alexandria and Lindblum. The village is South-West of Alexandria. it is a very peaceful and quaint village on the outside, but tells a different story underneath. The people here recently turned away from farming. Instead, they now manufacture Black Mages in their underground factory by using Mist, and then sell the Black Mages to Alexandria for great profit. The party first come here on Disc 1 when trying to reach Lindblum, after escaping the Ice Cavern. It is also on the fields around Dali that the group fight Black Waltz No. 2. Desert PalaceKuja's secret hide-out in the eastern desert on the Outer Continent. Don't be fooled by the elaborance and beauty of palace, it is full of deadly creatures and puzzling traps. It's protected by a large sand whirlpool. It is roughly North-East of the Black Mage Village, and roughly North of Alexandria. The party come here on Disc 3. Earth ShrineOne of the four hidden locations which allow passage via the Shimmering Island to the planet of Terra. This shrine is located south of the Desert Palace in an area of land that suffers from constant earthquakes. This shrine is protected by the monster Lich and is tackled by Zidane and Quina. They come here on Disc 3. Esto GazaA holy city on the snowy Lost Continent. From here, the Shimmering Island is visible and is the only access to the inside of Mount Gulug. The party come here on Disc 3, after Eiko is kidnapped and brought here by Kuja so Zorn and Thorn can extract her Eidolons in Mount Gulug. Evil ForestA large forest at the base of the plateau upon which Alexandria is situated. The haunting forest is full of alive plant-like creatures which come after all those who enter it. The Prima Vista airship crashes here after sustaining heavy damage while trying to flee Alexandria. Garnet is later kidnapped by the plant creatures and taken to the plant brain in the heart of the forest. When the plant brain is killed, the entire forest petrifies itself, along with Zidane's friend Blank who sacrificed himself to save the others. The party pass through here on Disc 1, and you can see Marcus coming through here to save Blank with the supersoft during flash-backs on Disc 2. Fire ShrineOne of the four hidden locations which allow passage via the Shimmering Island to the planet of Terra. This shrine is located in the heart of a volcano on the Lost Continent, North-East of Esto Gaza. This shrine is protected by Maliris and is tackled by Freya and Amarant. They come here on Disc 3. Fossil RooA hidden network that connects the Mist and Outer Continents. Wild Gargants can be ridden through the tunnels by feeding them yellow flowers, and a series of levers that control water flow allows you to decide which way the Gargant travels. The entrance to Fossil Roo is located in the Qu's Marsh near Lindblum. The bounty hunter Lani sets a wild machine-like monster loose on the party and later ambushes them after they escape from it. The party traverse Fossil Roo on Disc 2 while trying to reach the Outer Continent. Gargan RooAn underground passage that connects Alexandria and Treno. A tame Gargant can be ridden along the passage, that even stretches to Pinnacle Rocks near Lindblum. Wild snake and insect like monsters live in these passages also. The party are transported Gargan Roo repeatedly on Discs 2 and 3. Gizamaluke's GrottoA passage that goes through the mountains between Lindblum and Burmecia, connecting the two kingdoms. It is home to Master Gizamaluke, a large sea creature, before which Burmecians get married. Master Gizamaluke is driven mad by Kuja and attacks those who try to pass through. This eerie, and assumingly once beautiful, passageway through the mountain is passed through by Zidane and the party on Disc 1. They pass through after Alexandrian soldiers have destroyed the place, and while Zorn and Thorn and some of their Black Mage soldiers protect the passageway. Ice CavernAn icy passage through the mountains between the Evil Forest and the village of Dali. It is home to a variety of ice creatures, and it is here that Black Waltz No. 1 attacks Zidane. The party pass through this perilous icy dungeon on Disc 1. Iifa TreeA giant tree on the Outer Continent. It is called the Sanctuary by the dwarves, who come here to be blessed after being married. This tree is the source of the mist that engulfs the planet, and was put there long ago by Garland as a way of filtering the cycle of souls. The mist is a by-product of the filtering system and is transported through the roots, as explained by the Soul Cage monster who lives here and filters the souls. Zidane and the party come here repeatedly on Disc 2. The first time they come to lure Kuja to them so they can defeat him. They later return when Kuja arrives and while Queen Brahne attacks him using Bahamut, who Kuja takes control of and uses to destroy her forces. The party also must come here on Disc 4, as Memoria hovers above the Iifa Tree. Ipsen's CastleA old structure that is 'backward' in many respects. It resembles and upside-down castle and weapons that normally cause weaker damage, cause greater damage here. It is full of dangerous traps and it is here that the four elemental mirrors needed to access the Shimmering Island reside. Amarant tries to prove that working on your own is faster and better than working as part of a team, but gets injured in the process and rescued by Zidane. The party visit this place on Disc 3. LindblumThe most advanced kingdom on Gaia, is located on the Southern part of the Mist Continent. It is home to airships, and controls the largest airship armada in the world. The city of Lindblum is actually in the castle. Lindblum is split in several districts, the Business District, the Theatre District, the Industrial District as well as Lindblum Grand Castle. Lindblum is home to the annual Festival of the Hunt as well as the group of thieves called Tantalus. Regent Cid Fabool IX, also an airship inventor, rules here. The party first visit here on Disc 1, fleeing in an old cargo ship from Black Waltz No. 3. During the first visit; Zidane, Vivi and Freya all take part in the Festival of the Hunt. The party visits Lindblum repeatedly during the game. Lindblum is destroyed by Alexandrian forces and the Eidolon Atomos on Disc 2. Madain SariA village of summoners on the Outer Continent. Ten years ago it was completely destroyed by Garland's ship called the Invincible. Garnet (called Sara at the time) and her mother survived because they were at sea in a boat at the time. Their boat later washed ashore in Alexandria. Four years later, a girl was born at Madain Sari called Eiko. By the time Eiko was 6, all the other summoners had died and she lived alone in the ruins of Madain Sari with a large population of Moogles. Zidane and the party arrive here on Disc 2 on their way to the Iifa Tree. It is also here that Amarant and Lani, bounty hunters, find the group. Madain Sari also has a strange structure called the Eidolon Wall, where the summoners used to pray to the Eidolons. The Eidolon Wall is covered in paintings of the different Eidolons. Garnet also finally remembers her early past and connections to Madain Sari on Disc 2. MemoriaAccessed through a floating ball of purple light above the Iifa Tree on Disc 4. Memoria is a strange place that brings various memories of the character's pasts to life. It is through Memoria that the Crystal World can be accessed. Memoria is guarded by the four chaos guardians; Maliris, Tiamit, Kraken and Lich. It is also here that the powerful boss Hades resides. Mognet CentralMognet Central is located North-East of Madain Sari, on an island on the Outer Continent. Mognet Central is basically a post office, where Mognet mail is sorted. At a certain point in Disc 3, moogles begin to hint that Mognet Central isn't work very efficiently anymore as they have not received mail in a while. In actual fact, a purple moogle called Artemecion has been using the oil needed to keep the machinary there working, on his coat to make it shiny instead! You can choose to do an optional-side-quest after this point to fix the problem at Mognet Central. Mount GulugA volcano near Esto Gaza on the Lost Continent. The inside of the volcano is only accessible through Esto Gaza, and is full of ferocious dragons. Mount Gulug was once the home to a race of moles, who built the village inside the volcano. The party comes here on Disc 3 when Eiko is kidnapped by Kuja and brought here to have her Eidolons extracted. But Eiko's moogle friend, Mog, protects her as Mog is actually the Eidolon Madeen in disguise. This is also where Regent Cid's wife Lady Hilda is kept prisoner. Observatory MountainA small mountain on the outskirts of Dali. Cargo ships from Alexandria use it as a beacon to find the village. Steiner comes here on Disc 1 to find a way of transporting Garnet back to Alexandria. An old man called Morrid lives at the base of the mountain and you can take part in a side-quest to find three cups of his beloved coffee for him; Moccha coffee, Kirman coffee and Burman coffee, which are scattered all over the world. OeilvertAn old structure on the Southern area of the Forgotten Continent. It is hidden at the end of a long, winding valley. It is full of technology and holographic imagery that tells the story of the ancient civilisation which built this place. The story is written in a strange language that only Zidane can read. Oeilvert houses the Gulug Stone deep in it's depths. The Gulug Stone is protected by a large airship-like guardian called Ark, which was also mentioned in the story told throughout Oeilvert. Zidane and 3 friends were sent here by Kuja on Disc 3 to recover the Gulug Stone. Kuja wouldn't enter himself because of the anti-magic barrier that surrounds the building. PandemoniumGarland's grand fortress on Terra. It is from here that watches over the Genomes, Gaia, Kuja and the cycle of souls. Garland was put in charge of watching over the people of Terra until they could be 'reborn'. On Disc 3, another Genome with a soul called Mikoto, leads Zidane here to meet with Garland. Garland reveals the past that Zidane had forgotten about where he came from, and the truth about Kuja. Garland brainwashed Zidane so that he could make Zidane do his bidding, but with the help of his friends, Zidane broke free of Garland's control. Pinnacle RocksA swamp-like place near Lindblum. Zidane and party come here on Disc 2 when their Gargant gets chased by a mist creature in Gargan Roo. It is here that the Eidolon of Thunder, Ramuh, resides. He consents to become Garnet's Eidolon after testing her by making her find clones of himself and reconstructing a story. Quan's DwellingA house inside a spacious cave near Treno. Vivi's 'grandfather' once lived here with Vivi before he died. Vivi's grandfather, a Qu, actually fished Vivi from the ocean below. Qu's MarshFour marshes exist all over the world where members of the Qu race live and hunt and eat frogs. The first marsh you can visit is in between Lindblum and Gizamaluke's Grotto. It is here that Master Quale, a master of cuisine, lives and it is here that you meet Quina. It is in this marsh that the entrance to Fossil Roo is situated. The other three marshes are on the Outer Continent (North-East of the Black Mage Village), the Forgotten Continent (roughly East of Ipsen's Castle) and on an island roughly North-West of Daguerreo and South-West of Oeilvert. Shimmering IslandAn island South-East of Esto Gaza, and is known to be full of mysterious power. Once the guardians of the Four Elemental Shrines have been defeated simultaneously, you can travel through via here to Terra. Zidane and party travel through here on Disc 3. South GateA gate that connects Lindblum and Alexandria. Airships most commonly pass through here, although people can also pass through on foot using the trolley car system. At the mid-way point you can see into both territories and try the famous South Gate Bundt Cake. Garnet and Steiner pass through here on Disc 2 and meet up with Marcus, who is on his way to save Blank. TerraA smaller planet that was once an advanced civilisation. The people of Terra now sleep and wait to be 'reborn' and inhabit the bodies of the Genomes. Garland watches over them and watches the cycle of souls, filtering them until souls fill the bodies of the Genomes. The surface of Terra is a strange place. On the outside, Terra glows red, but on the surface is covered in crystalline blue structures. Zidane and the party come here on Disc 3. It is Zidane's homeworld, and is also where Kuja originally comes from. TrenoTreno is the Alexandrian territories, and is in constant night times. Treno is famous for its wonderful architecture. The nobility of Treno live on one side of the city, while the poorer folk live in the watery slums on the other side of the city. Treno has a large auction house which stocks rare items such as Dark Matter. Treno also hosts a popular card tournament. Queen Stella resides here, and you must return to her repeatedly during the Stellazio sidequest. Zidane and Amarant first met here long ago, although Zidane does not remember the event. Garnet, Steiner and Marcus first come here on Disc 2, to get the Supersoft to save Blank with the help of Baku and Dr. Tot. They then use the Gargan Roo to travel to Alexandria. Zidane and party next come here on Disc 3 for the card tournament. Water ShrineOne of the four hidden locations which allow passage via the Shimmering Island to the planet of Terra. This shrine is located in a whirlpool near the Forgotten Continent, roughly South of Ipsen's Castle. This shrine is protected by Kraken and is tackled by Garnet and Eiko. They come here on Disc 3. Wind ShrineOne of the four hidden locations which allow passage via the Shimmering Island to the planet of Terra. This shrine is located in a windy structure resembling roots, South-East of Oeilvert. This shrine is protected by Tiamat and is tackled by Steiner and Vivi. They come here on Disc 3.
