Finding Ultimecia

From the Organ Room, head right and up the stairs. Save your game and climb the tower. When you reach the top, cross the clock arms and head toward the left, then climb down 2 flights of stairs. Once you reach ground, just keep heading straight. Save your game and enter the door to fight Ultimecia. You'll be fighting 4 continuous forms of Ultimecia, lasting you no longer than 10 to 15 minutes if you're well prepared.

The Outline

There are basically 2 methods of beating Ultimecia.

The 1st method is if you choose to use Heroes or Holy War throughout the battle sequences.

The 2nd method is by not using invincibility. This is a more challenging scenario.

As for the main party, you have no choice in who you go to battle with. The main party is chosen at random by Ultimecia just before you start the epic battle. I myself was lucky, having Ultimecia choose Squall, Quistis, and Selphie. Selphie’s Full Heal Limit Break and Quistis’ Shockwave Pulsar Limit Break, along with Squall’s Lion Heart Limit Break. With this, you must ensure that all characters are fully prepared for the battle.

First, junction Str+60% to all characters (use a Hyper Wrist on junctionned GFs ~ modding the Zell card will give you 3 Hyper Wrists to guarantee each character gets this skill) and have all your character's HP raised to 9999. You can do this by junctioning magic using the HP-J (depending on each character’s base HP, many different spells can be used, generally though Ultima will guarantee max HP in any case, although it can be more useful elsewhere i.e. Str-J) and HP+80% (use a Gaea’s Ring on junctionned GFs ~ modding the Ward card will give you 3 Gaea’s Rings to guarantee each character gets this skill). Carry a minimum of 10 Megalixirs (modding the Bahamut card will result in 100 Megalixirs). Make sure each member of your main party has the Item command enabled. Have everyone carry a hefty supply of the Aura spell and Aura Stones (1 Steel Pipe refines to 1 Aura Stone using the Tool-RF ability).

For the 1st method only: make sure you have at least 5 Holy Wars left in your inventory, and move them at the top of the list (modding the Gilgamesh card will result in 10 Holy Wars or modding the Laguna card will result in 100 Heroes).

Note:After modding any card, it can be re-won and modded once again by finding the Queen of Cards on the southern peninsula of Esthar at the Crash site. Unfortunately, the set of rules in Triple Triad at this point in the game are very difficult, so beware.

Stages

Stage 1 : Ultimecia
Level HP Weakness Immunity Absorbs
62 41,200 Poison Holy
Description
The evil Sorceress attempting to change the universe by means of time compression.
Available Actions
Maelstrom, Holy, Quake, Dispel, Firaga, Blizzaga, Thundaga, Tornado, Stop

Strategy

This is her easiest form. Her most powerful attack is Maelstrom, which leaves your entire party with 1/4 of their remaining HP while causing slow/curse status at the same time. If she casts Maelstrom on your party, you can use a Megalixir to fully restore (and remove all aliments) your party. Sadly, she will use this attack frequently. Also, if any of your characters are knocked out throughout the entire battle, make sure you revive them quickly otherwise they will be "Absorbed into time", replacing the KO'd character with another random one.

*Note* For those who are risky, simply defend the characters that you’d prefer to use until other characters are KO’d and your main party of choice arrives.

First off, summon Doomtrain. Since Ultimecia is weak against poison, she will take good damage from Doomtrain while removing her defense simultaneously. If you don't have Doomtrain, cast Meltdown on her. Then use an Aura Stone or cast Aura on Squall. After 1 Limit Break attack from Squall (if you cast Doomtrain or meltdown on her), you will see at the top of the screen in the info window:

"The most powerful GF..."
"...You shall..."
"...SUFFER...!"
"HAHAHA..."

and The Legendary Beast, Griever, will take over the battle this point on.

Stage 2 : Griever
Level HP Weakness Immunity Absorbs
65 200,000+ Earth Poison
Description
In Squall's mind, the strongest GF. With help from Ultimecia's power, will never leave the battlefield.
Available Actions
Doom, Demi, Shockwave Pulsar, Pain, Gravija, "Remove magic spell" attack, Draw characters' magic

Strategy

Griever isn't difficult, even though he's deemed the most powerful GF. His most powerful attack is Shockwave Pulsar (the one and the same as Quistis’s final Limit Break) which cause an average of 3,000 to 5,000+ pts of damage to all your fighters, depending on how they're junctioned, level, stats, etc. For those using the first method, another Holy War and you’re all set.

Shockwave Pulsar is inevitable and is always used when Griever receives enough damage (about 175,000) into the fight. Griever uses Shockwave Pulsar when Ultimecia says:

"The GF's true power.."
"Allow me..."
"To show you...!" "Griever! Make them bleed"

As long as you have your characters' HP raised to 9999 and carry a couple of Megalixirs, this shouldn't be a threat.

Start this battle by casting Meltdown on Griever, then Aura for Squall if it worn off prior to the last battle. Then have the 3rd character use a Holy War (only for those seeking a challenge, do not use Holy Wars).

Wait for Squall's limit break to appear and then hit Griever with all you got. If the limit break menu doesn't appear, just keep the Refresh trick (pressing O to reset the menu) until it does. 3 to 4 limit breaks will finish Griever off. If you're lucky, two Lion Hearts will more than do the job.

Stage 3 : Ultimecia-Griver
Level HP Weakness Immunity Absorbs
65 200,000+ N/A Earth Poison
Description
Ultimecia junctioned to Griever. A powerful monster that combines Ultimecia's and Griever's forces
Available Actions
Meteor, Holy, Holy, Quake, "Remove magic spell" attack

Strategy

After defeating Griever, Ultimecia will junction herself to Griever. Again, you will want to cast Meltdown onto Ultimecia-Griever as soon as the battle initiates. Then repeat the steps use for defeating Ultimecia's prior form: cast Aura on Squall and let him unload the limit breaks.

Ultimecia-Griever will summon two separate parts called Helix. All these do is increase her magic attacks. Don't bother with them, concentrate your attack on Ultimecia-Griever. As Ultimecia-Griever is nearing death, it will break apart so that you will eventually fight the chest area and above.

Stage 4 : Ultimecia's Final Form
Level HP Weakness Immunity Absorbs
65 600,000+
Description
(Ultimecia Generator)The point from which Ultimecia's magic power generates. Casts the ultimate magic through power generated here.. Ultimecia, transformed to absorb all time and space. Absorbing all existence as we speak.
Available Actions
Hell's Judgement, Apocalypse, "Remove magic spell" attack

Strategy

This form has the most HP, approximately 600,000. She does a move called Hell's Judgement that reduces all the fighter's HP to 1. If she does it, simply use a Megalixir and your back at even par with her.

Again, start the battle by casting Meltdown on her. Then immediately follow up by casting Aura onto Squall, and then finish up by using a Holy War. Don't bother summoning GF's as Ultimecia will kill them instantly. Because Ultimecia removes an entire spell from a character on occasion and might knock out all your Aura spells, having a good load of Aura Stones is a good idea.

The final form of Ultimecia actually has two parts. The lower part only comes into play when she has received enough damage and the battle is concluding. This is indicated when she says:

"Reflect on your..."
"Childhood..."
"Your sensation..."
"Your words..."
"Your emotions..."
"Time..."
"It will not wait..."
"No matter..."
"...how hard you hold on"
"It escapes you..."

Nothing much to do with the lower portion, but it carries the Apocalypse spell that can wreck havoc to your party if they are not well prepared. When you see the "Reflect on your..." message, hit Ultimecia with all you got and as soon as possible. Given enough time, Ultimecia will draw Apocalypse from her lower portion (Generator) and cast it upon you. Each time it cause an average of 2,000 to 9,000+ damages to the party. Once again, if you choose to use Holy War, no damage will be taken from Apocalypse.

This will ultimately end the epic battle with Ultimecia, then sit back, feel proud, and watch the very moving ending cinematic. You deserve it!
