Sidequests - Winhill Vase Pieces Credits: _heartilly_ for writing content |
Sidequest Information and Availability
The Vase Quest in Winhill is a small side-quest that allows you to explore Winhill in a little more detail than you were able to with Laguna, and see how the village has changed.
When you are free to move around the world map, with either the Garden or the Ragnarok, you can visit Winhill near the Southern coast of Galbadia. It can be found just south of the D-District Prison past the river, or by flying roughly West-South-West (or just South-West) of Timber. You should take Quistis and Zell along with you. You can now enter the large mansion at the back of the village square, which was previously closed off when you were here with Laguna.
Talk to the owner on the staircase and listen to his complaints about a missing vase that he thinks has been taken by ghosts. If you can collect the four fragments of the broken vase and return them to the owner of the manor he will reward you. This is where to find the fragments:
Fragment Locations
- The armour in the hall of the mansion
Examine the suit of armour in the hall of the mansion. Quistis will fake a ghost's voice which scares Zell but doesn't fool Squall for a moment. Walk away from the statue and it will suddenly start moving! The suit of armour moves a little more and falls apart, revealing a Chicobo inside. The Chicobo then runs off, leaving the first vase piece behind.
- Raine's Pub
Enter Raine's pub on the village square and walk upstairs. Once upstairs you will see Raine standing there! A flash of light then turns her into the owner of the pub. Talk to the owner and then go back downstairs. Examine the white flowers on the table in the bottom right of the screen. Raine's ghost will appear behind the bar and then turn into a cat. Talk to the cat on the counter to receive another vase piece.
- Flower House
Leave the village square via the bottom of the screen and head towards the bottom of the next screen. As you approach the house covered with flowers, the old lady standing outside will turn and enter the house. Follow her inside and examine the flowers at the bottom of the screen. The old lady will began to talk about Raine. when she is finished examine the flowers for a second time to receive another vase piece.
- Chocobo Crossing
The Chocobo Crossing is the path between the fields where Kiros told Laguna about Timber Maniacs when you were here previously. You'll recognise this place by the different music that is played on this screen. Near the red "Caution" sign a Chicobo can be seen running back and forth across the screen. When the Chicobo runs across the screen you must run across the crossing so that you 'kick' the Chicobo. This requires a lot of careful timing. The Chicobo will be launched into the air and drop the final vase piece. You can continue to kick the Chicobo a few more times to gain a Gysahl Greens and a Phoenix Pinion (the game calls it a Phoenix Down, but it isn't really). If you kick the Chicobo one more time make sure you're out of the way because the mother Chocobo comes running across the screen, and the Chicobo will no longer run across the screen.
Reward
Once you have collected all four vase pieces take them to the owner of the mansion. Since it appears the trouble was caused by Chicobos and not ghosts, he will reward you with a Holy Stone, since they no longer need it.
