As of date, not much is known about the characters for Final Fantasy XIII. The video released by Square-Enix (and the official U.S. site), however, features a fierce female fighter weilding an unusual weapon - one that could change from a gun to a sword, and vice versa. She appears to be the lead character of the game. An image of her from the official FFXIII website can be found below.
