Photoshop - Geostigma

  1. Open up a new document.

    I used the settings:
    • width: 200 pixels
    • height: 200 pixels
    • mode: RGB Color
    • contents: white
  2. Select any color for the foreground and background colors. (Tip: Best to use black and white)
  3. Select the gradient tool. Make sure it's selected on foreground to background in the top left drop down box of the PhotoShop window then select linear gradient (the first one). Set:
    • mode: difference
    • opacity :100%
Make sure the first box is unchecked (Reverse), and make sure the other two are checked (Dither and Transparency).
  4. Go mad on the canvas with the gradient tool, make it very random, and it does not have to look good at all, just make sure you have done this for a good minute, so there are a lot of very random paths on you're image. (Tip: do short and different strokes, horizontal, vertical, diognal, etc)
  5. Go to: Filter> Stylize> Fine Edges.
  6. Duplicate the layer.
  7. Go to: Edit> Transform> Flip Horizontal.
  8. Set the duplicated layers blending mode to lighten.
  9. Make sure the duplicated layer, in the bottom right corner of the PhotoShop window is selected, and hit Ctrl + E, to merge the layers down.
  10. You're done!
  11. If you want to change the color of your image, you can do so by doing any of these steps: Go to Image > Adjustments > Varations or Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation.
  12. Just play around with various settings. Here are what I got:
